So many tab links, so little time
Every day's an endless stream of thought vignettes and e-magazines, or links to make me think. My kids give me reasons to smile, too.
How can I write letters, or even good newsletters, when there’s so much great stuff to read! And sometimes comment on, there. Here’s the kind of stuff I’m living my life in reading and thinking about.
Tyler Cowen (MR) suggests that a good, unexpected question for an interview is “What tabs do you have open”? I’m sure that NTPs (Myers-Briggs) or High Openness (Big 5 OCEAN) personalities have many tabs.
I’m using Opera, for music listening while playing games – or light browsing, which gets heavier.
Brave is my non-google Chrome substitute. But Chrome is used, too, for my @gmail.com (ThomasGrey), and even Edge for when dealing with MS. Most have a different Somafm.com station, on Opera now it’s “Underground 80s”
https://instapundit.com - my daily source of general news and links to maybe open; often it goes to https://pjmedia.com/vodkapundit/2022/09/09/ukraine-war-moscow-we-have-a-problem-n1627870 (PJ Media), with some Ukraine war or anti-Woke culture war in the USA.
https://www.thenewneo.com - my longest regularly followed and commented blog. In a recent Baryshnikov post, she linked to an old 2006 post (on The Turning Point), and my comment then was there. In May she considered but has not yet decided to go to substack.

https://www.thenewneo.com/2022/09/10/its-been-21-years-since-9-11/ << a new world disorder.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076843/?ref_=vp_close << “The Turning Point” a really good movie about the very important “family or career?” for two women who chose differently years before.
Also reminded me of my first fav blogger: https://www.commentary.org/author/michael-totten/
Arnold Kling is my other favorite blog to comment on ttps://arnoldkling.substack.com .
Like on Russ Roberts:

For Arnold, I focus more on econ, like from the Fed: https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/EMRATIO
Employment-Population Ratio - and “ Are we in a recession (yet)?” (graph of probabilities)
https://fredblog.stlouisfed.org/2022/08/are-we-in-a-recession-yet/ where, Aug 8, “the June 2022 data do not seem to indicate a recession.” Too much politics. It is a recession, and the definitive rule should be an objective definition – 2 quarters of negative GDP. Then the caveats and what it means, or not. How bad, or not bad.

“Inflation and 'the New McCarthyism' Larry Summers supports affirmative action but objects to excess political correctness, yet fails to identify its main cause: Colleges DISCRIMINATE against hiring Republicans.

What do we want our utility function to be? What do we want to care about, rather than given what we care about what's the best choice?”
Reminding me of “First things first” – what is the destination I want to go to.

- Richard defending more immigration, talks with Amy Wax. For me, the US needs to first stop the illegals – have borders, have laws about who & how many can immigrate, and enforce them. Then, maybe, increase the numbers let it. Especially high IQ, hard-working, honest folk.

The BIGGEST ISSUE in America is the woke colleges, which have been discriminating against hiring Republicans for many decades. I wish some rich Republicans would buy some Universities that seem to close and re-purpose them to hire Republican professors and teach young people values, as well as job skills. (jobs kills?)
I’m really enjoying … Karoke!
Went to a karaoke bar in Corfu on vacation in July – and now again visiting Wild Thing in Bratislava. *Trust me you can sing* Found out there is a second one – so will visit it soon. Last time my version of “(I can’t get no) Satisfaction” was my best song. In my range, no longer have any falsetto. Fun. I know the rhythm and accents on the words. Clash good, too.
Using songs for learning English is pretty good for some folk. Here’s a site for reading:

In July, Hungarian PM Orban gave an important speech: https://miniszterelnok.hu/speech-by-prime-minister-viktor-orban-at-the-31st-balvanyos-summer-free-university-and-student-camp/
Interesting different political axis – diamond.

Reads LOTS of books
- Bryan Caplan, Libertarian becoming known for his education critiques of too much signaling, not enough teaching.
– the more conservative and econ oriented of the Two Black Guys from The Glenn Show, long on BloggingHeads.

When I started, I thought I’d have the links from the other browsers here, too – but it’s late and time to publish this list before Kling’s Monday seminar.
